Midpoint, Midpoint, Midpoint!

Filed under: life — theartpocket @ 5:40 pm

Last night at Midpoint was AWESOME! If you are looking for a group to hang out with tonight, we are meeting at 6:30 at Kaldi’s, 1204 Main St downtown . We are going to have a great time! Write me if you need more info.
There will be hundreds of musicians (from all over the world) of all genres of music playing their hearts out downtown Thursday-Saturday. Last night was awesome, so don’t miss Friday and Saturday!
You can also check out entheos at Below Zero Lounge upstairs on Saturday at 1130pm. (Below Zero is located downtown at 1122 Walnut at the building that once was home to DV8 and Alchemize.)

And here’s our CityBeat write-up where they compare us to the eurythmics (yay!): http://citybeat.com/gyrobase/Content?oid=oid%3A146138

We just got our internet service back about an hour ago, and our lights come on last night at 2am!
Today I stretched and gessoed 5 canvases, so look for a lot of work to come soon.
For now I just have to get some things in order. Amazing how connected to technology we really are.
Hope everyone else is doing well also. It was a heck of a storm.

New frames.

Filed under: life — theartpocket @ 2:31 pm

I made Alison some new frames for her prints and they turned out really nice. Hopefully she can get a show with these prints and I will be making her a bunch more.
These prints are going into voltage furniture, and will be a big hit Im sure!

I also wanted to say congratulation to my cousin Jennifer and her husband Bob. They just had a new born baby girl named Ava. Ive already fallen in love with her! It was the newest born baby I have ever seen. I got to hold her when she was about an hour and a half old.

Here are some weekend dates you dont want to miss.
Tomorrow, Sayler Parks second saturday concert series continues. It starts at 4 and goes till around 7ish. Come check out some good bands and enjoy the beautiful setting. for direction click here: http://www.cincinnatiusa.com/calendar/event.asp?ProdID=86034

Tips!

Filed under: Tips — theartpocket @ 1:42 pm

I found a nice little video on the web about how to do oil paintings. Its almost as good as mine;) There are three in the series, so make sure you check them all out.
I love seeing how people work. Most are pretty similar, but all of us have different ideas that we can give to one another.

One other tip from me is this, if you want to be a better artist, seek out other artists to talk to. You wont only get great ideas, but you will meet some great people in the process!
Im going to try and give more of these tips in the future, so keep check back every week for more.

Enjoy!
From this video you can click at the bottom to find the second and third.

New series!

Filed under: Work in progress — theartpocket @ 12:59 pm

Im starting a new series of paintings today! Ive been coming up with ideas for weeks now, and its all starting to fit together.
Trying to put thoughts and concepts on a 2 dimensional canvas can be hard sometimes. Because of my abstract work, I finally feel like things are starting to fall into place. I finally feel like Im getting into a style of work I like. My thoughts will hopefully be able to be painted onto a canvas. I wont just be rendering a photo in paint. Not that there is anything wrong with that, Its just not what I want to do as an artist.
So here is the first canvas Im painting on. 40X30 inch, smaller than the rest will be. I want to experiment a bit before I go big.
Ill talk more about concept and style in future posts.

Also, Im looking for models still if anyone is interested. Clothed and nude, Im doing both. Contact me and I can fill you in on what I want to do.
