New work, new show

Filed under: abstract art, landscape/ waterscape art, shows, Work in progress — theartpocket @ 3:43 am

Here are some new pieces Ive been working on.  They will be showing at Taza Coffee house in Clifton.  I will be installing the show tomorrow, so go down and check it out, the pictures never do art justice.
Alison and I have been getting a lot of work done lately, so we have been pretty swamped. She is working on a new series that I cant wait to show everyone! They are already looking awesome! Ill post a sneak peak of a WIP at the end of this blog.
I hope everyone out their in cyberland is doing well! Thanks so much for coming back and checking our blog out. We have so much more beauty to show all of you.
Until next time, God bless!

One of Alisons new paintings and my interpretation of it;)

Filed under: the human figure, Work in progress — theartpocket @ 3:57 am

Photobucket
It represents us humans resting in the spirit of Gods love for us. When we realize Gods love, it produces rest. When we are able to rest, we produce fruit, a metaphor for bringing love into this physical realm of reality. Not just love as a thought, but as an action verb. Loving and helping others, thinking of others needs first etc..
The painting is cyclical because when that happens it produces more rest(rest from fear, stress and worry, which ultimately is all just based in fear) which in turn produces more fruit.
If you notice behind her neck there is sort of a pipe that is coming into her and shooting out light from her head. That represents us being a conduit for Gods love to flow through us.

pastels

Filed under: the human figure, Uncategorized, Work in progress — theartpocket @ 8:22 am

i’ve just started a pastel drawing as a kind of study for a painting.  it’s part of the ‘sides of adam/ faces of eve’ series i’ve been working on for the past couple years.  i’ve never really done any elaborate pastel work with the figure (just little bits here and there when teaching), so this new experiment is presenting me with fun and frustrating challenges.   i’m using a combination of blick pastels and nupastels, but they’re proving themselves to be very powdery, not creamy enough for my liking.  if anyone knows of a pastel that might be cheaper than rembrandt brand but comparable in quality, your recommendations would be more than welcomed!  thanks in advance!

The long awaited return

Filed under: landscape/ waterscape art, Work in progress — theartpocket @ 3:20 pm

At The Art Pocket we know how everyone is hanging on every word we write in this blog;)  Its been awhile, I know.

The holidays were a lot of fun and now its time to hit the pavement hard in this new year.  We are in the process of  setting up shows and creating new clientele as I write this.  Alison has gotten a few commission pieces from our friends at ADC http://www.artdesignconsultants.com/  and we have been working on getting a base of students for us to teach.  If you know of anyone who wants to learn art let us know!
I am getting ready to start a mural for us down here in Sayler Park and new and exciting events are getting planned to share art with all of you! Look for more updates about some fun art events coming up.

One last thing, if you are in the Loveland area, check out the Loveland Starbucks. I have a few pieces hanging there!

So Ive been slacking BIG TIME!

Filed under: abstract art, life, shows, Work in progress — theartpocket @ 5:15 pm

But, we have a lot going on.
First off, I have a few pieces in a show this friday at the Marx gallery in Covington.
520 Madison Ave Covington, KY 41011 Come check it out! It is the first friday gallery walk, and I believe they are giving free carriage rides around covington to the different galleries. What fun for free!
Then next Friday, December 12th Alison and I will be showing some work at the Redtree gallery. Its always a fun time and there is always great art. http://www.redtreegallery.net/ If you cant make the 12th, there will be a Charity event at the Redtree gallery on the 20th called, Party with a Purpose.
I will be donating a piece of artwork for this event, so you wont want to miss out on trying to get it. Plus you will be helping a good cause! All proceeds benefit the Boca Restaurant Group Foundation, which is dedicated to breaking the cycle of generational poverty in Cincinnati.

So lots going on, plus Christmas. (wipes sweat from brow)
Here is a pick of some new work that will be in the Redtree show. Hope you are all doing well and enjoying this Holiday season!

New series!

Filed under: Work in progress — theartpocket @ 12:59 pm

Im starting a new series of paintings today! Ive been coming up with ideas for weeks now, and its all starting to fit together.
Trying to put thoughts and concepts on a 2 dimensional canvas can be hard sometimes. Because of my abstract work, I finally feel like things are starting to fall into place. I finally feel like Im getting into a style of work I like. My thoughts will hopefully be able to be painted onto a canvas. I wont just be rendering a photo in paint. Not that there is anything wrong with that, Its just not what I want to do as an artist.
So here is the first canvas Im painting on. 40X30 inch, smaller than the rest will be. I want to experiment a bit before I go big.
Ill talk more about concept and style in future posts.

Also, Im looking for models still if anyone is interested. Clothed and nude, Im doing both. Contact me and I can fill you in on what I want to do.
